Shifting Seasons, Adjusting Routines – 5 Ways to Cope!

Shifting Seasons, Adjusting Routines – 5 ways to cope!

It’s the end of August and we are all experiencing that shift again!  Small shifts like the temperatures getting cooler overnight and the sunrise just a bit later and sunset a bit earlier, signal the end of a season   It’s back to school for the kids and maybe you, a shift in traffic patterns, and a shift in attitudes as we head into Fall.  For many people there is a feeling that the fun is over and it’s back to the drudgery of school and work.  It doesn’t have to be that way.

Here are 5 ways to cope with the changing of the seasons.

Establish a new routine:  Back to school, new shifts, etc. can cause turmoil in any house when trying to get everyone out the door on time.   Remember that you had to adjust to a new routine at the beginning of summer and you will eventually find your new groove moving into fall.

Focus on the positives:  Put down in writing what you hope to accomplish this fall.  Taking time to create something to look forward to helps get through those times when you feel overwhelmed.  Are you going to do some landscaping, go back to school, look for a new job, or take a trip?

Prep before bed: Clothes, meals, backpacks, paperwork, etc. set any items needed by the door you will leave the house from in the morning.  Those 10-15 minutes before you go to bed to plan what you will need the next day, will help you to sleep better and get out the door on time.

Enjoy the late summer harvest:  You may be still enjoying the tomatoes, zucchini and fresh peaches in August, but start to incorporate some of the fall fruits and vegetables too.  It’s not just the arrival of the Pumpkin Spice Latte that signals Fall – there are many delicious options of Apples, squash and sweet potatoes.  Get your recipe book out and have several fall recipes at the ready for those first cool days.

Enjoy the cool fall days with Friends:  Host a football party, go for a walk to see the fall leaves, join a book club. It’s easy to get isolated in our homes during the colder months, make sure you keep your social connections to help you through the shifting seasons.

If one of the changes of the upcoming season is finding a new job in the healthcare industry or considering a travel nursing position, please reach out to SOS Healthcare Staffing – we would love to see if you are a fit for our team!
